A new MVNO is coming soon, and it promises unlimited service starting at just $15 per month.
Unreal Mobile is launching early summer 2018 as a new MVNO from FreedomPop. The service is targeting Sprint and T-Mobile subscribers, aiming to offer a competitive wireless plan that can go head-to-head with Sprint and T-Mo's postpaid business.
FreedomPop explains that normally it wouldn't be able to offer such a low-cost service, but because Sprint and T-Mobile are working to prove to the U.S. government that there will be wireless competition if they're allowed to merge, the carriers are compelled to allow MVNO services that they would normally see as too competitive to their own services.
Here's a statement from Mauricio Sastre, FreedomPop SVP of Strategy and Carrier Relations:
"A year ago, there was no way Sprint would have allowed us to offer UNREAL. Today however, their hands are tied, as Sprint and T-Mobile are held up in regulatory approvals contingent on their ability to demonstrate that competition won't suffer. Given that FreedomPop’s platform is enabling large companies like Dish to launch new MVNO brands in months, we decided to use it for our own purposes.”
Details on Unreal Mobile's rate plans are light, but we know that the unlimited service will start at $15 per month and operate on a 4G LTE network. The service will also offer perks like VPN, built-in encryption, ad-blocking, and the ability to use your phone number on any device, including your tablet, computer, or another phone.
Unreal is now accepting a limited number of beta registrations. If you'd like to try it out, you can request an invitation right here.
