Samsung recently started pushing Android 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S8, and with that update is a bump to Samsung Experience 9.0. And with that upgrade to Samsung Experience 9.0 comes new and updated emoji.
Samsung has improved several of the emoji included with its custom Android user interface, making them more in line with the emoji used on other platforms. For example, the Rolling Eyes emoji looks more annoyed than happy and the Face Screaming in Fear lost the ghost coming out of its mouth.
The update also brings new emoji like a starry-eyed face, a monocle face, an exploding head, and more.
The Samsung Experience 9.0 update with Android 8.0 Oreo is only rolling out to select countries so far, like Germany. We haven't seen it arrive in the US yet, but now that it's started going out in other parts of the globe, a US rollout could be near.
It's good to see Samsung update and improve the emoji used on its flagship phone. Lots of people like to use emoji, but having emoji with extremely different looks or expressions across platforms can twist the meaning of the characters. Now Samsung's emoji look more in line with those found on other platforms, and Samsung users are getting some new emoji to integrate into their conversations, too.
