After announcing its Snapdragon X50 5G modem back in 2016, Qualcomm today announced that several carriers and OEMs will be using that modem for use with 5G networks.
First up, many carriers have committed to using the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem for over the air mobile 5G NR trials in 2018 and early 2019. Those include AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon in the US; Deutsche Telekom in Germany; China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile in China; and more.
Here's the full list of carriers that've chosen to use the X50 5G modem for their 5G trials:
AT&T, British Telecom, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, KT Corporation, LG Uplus, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, Singtel, SK Telecom, Sprint, Telstra, TIM, Verizon, and Vodafone Group
Meanwhile, several OEMs have committed to using the X50 5G modem for their 5G product launches that'll begin in 2019. These mobile devices will use the 5G NR standard.
The OEMs that've committed to using the X50 5G modem include ASUS, HMD Global, LG, OPPO, Sony, Xiaomi, ZTE, and more. The full list of companies that'll use the X50 5G modem looks like this:
