Google has dabbled with gaming in the past, like it did with its controller for the Nexus Player, but a new report claims that the company is working on making a much bigger splash in the gaming market.
Google is working on a subscription-based game streaming service codenamed "Yeti", say sources speaking to The Information. Yeti would allow you to stream video games from Google cloud servers as you're playing them rather than downloading them completely or buying physical discs.
Yeti could work either with a Chromecast or with a console made by Google.
When it comes to the games that'd be on the service, today's report says the Google has been talking with game developers, but it's unknown if any will develop games for the Yeti service or make their existing games available on it.
Google's Yeti wouldn't be the first streaming gaming service. For example, Sony offers its PlayStation Now subscription service which lets you stream more than 600 PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 games for a monthly fee.
Apple offers third-party gaming controllers for use with the Apple TV and iOS devices, but gaming on the Apple TV with that controller doesn't seem to have gained traction with consumers. It'll be interesting to see if Google can have better luck with a dedicated game streaming service.
