One month ago, it was confirmed that several Honor smartphones would be updated to Android 8.0. Now it looks like at least one of those phones won't get an update after all.
The Honor 8 will not be updated to Android Oreo. That's according to Honor India's official Twitter account, which explains that the update has been canceled "due to hardware and software limitations."
@Ushu we can understand your concern. However, we regret to inform you that Honor 8 is not compatible for Android Oreo update due to hardware and software limitations. Further, Honor 8 will get security patch update when needed. Inconvenience is regretted.

Honor India's Twitter account does say that the Honor 8 will receive security patches when needed, so the device isn't being totally left behind. Still, this news is pretty disappointing for Honor 8 owners. The device is around a year and a half old at this point, and while it's not the most high-end phone around, it was pretty well-received for being a solid mid-range option when it launched.
