One of the nice things about having smartphones with high definition screens is being able to watch HD content on them. Unfortunately for OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 owners, they're unable to stream HD content from select services.
Both the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 are unable to stream HD content from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play, and select other services. This is because the devices only support Widevine Level 3 DRM, which covers standard definition streaming, and not the Widevine Lever 1 DRM required for HD streaming.
OnePlus has confirmed that an update to enable Widevine Level 1 is planned. However, the company hasn't said when that update will be released.
It's kind of odd the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 lack the sufficient DRM for HD video streaming. They're both high-end devices, and with the OnePlus 5T, its large high-res screen is one of its main selling points. SD video probably doesn't look great on the OnePlus 5T and 5's screen, so here's to hoping that OnePlus can get its Widevine Level 1 update out soon.
