A couple of months after teasing that an Android Oreo beta for the Essential Phone was in the works, the folks at Essential have delivered.
Essential Phone owners can now sideload a beta version of their phone's Android Oreo update. The company does caution that this beta may contain some bugs and that its support team won't be equipped to troubleshoot any software issues that you may encounter while running the Oreo beta.
The good news is that installing the Android Oreo beta won't affect your Essential Phone's limited warranty. Plus, if you install the beta but then find yourself wanting to go back to the stable release, you can do that using the Current Builds section of Essential's website.
Since this is a beta and you need to sideload the update to try Android Oreo on your Essential Phone, you should probably only do this if you're comfortable with things like side loading updates. Betas can be buggy, and you'll have to be prepared to live with those bugs.
There's no word yet on when Essential will release the full Oreo update for the Essential Phone.
