Amazon today introduced a new Fire HD 10 tablet with several improvements over its predecessor.
The new Amazon Fire HD 10 starts at $149.99, which is $80 less than the starting price of the previous Fire HD 10. That model includes 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and Amazon’s Special Offers that’ll show ads on your lock screen. You can jump up to 64GB of built-in storage for $189.99.
Another notable upgrade of the Fire HD 10 is its display. While it’s got a 10-inch screen like the previous model, this new version’s screen resolution is 1920x1200, higher than the past model’s 1280x800 screen res.
Amazon is including hands-free Alexa with the Fire HD 10, too, marking the first time that such a feature has been available on a Fire tablet. This means that you don’t need to launch an app or tap the screen to activate Alexa. Just speak to the assistant and it’ll do what you ask.
The new Fire HD 10 also includes a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, which combine to make this tablet 30 percent faster the previous model, says Amazon. There’s dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos Sound, dual band Wi-Fi, 2-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, and Android running below Amazon’s custom user interface.
Color options for the new Fire HD 10 include Black, Marine Blue, and Punch Red.
Amazon is now taking pre-orders for its new Fire HD 10 tablet. The device will launch on October 11th.
Also available is a Fire HD 10 case that can be prop the tablet up using a built-in stand for $39.99.
The Fire HD 10 looks like a good upgrade over the previous model and a solid addition to Amazon’s line of Fire tablets. Not only are additions like a higher screen resolution and hands-free Alexa big, but the starting price of $149.99 is pretty great for a large tablet.
