When Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ earlier this year, there were quite a few notable new features. One of those was a hardware button on the side of the devices dedicated to calling up Bixby, Samsung’s new digital assistant. Not everyone is a huge fan of Bixby, though, and so now Samsung is giving those folks the option to disable Bixby’s button.
Samsung is now giving Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 owners the option to disable the Bixby button. The toggle can be found at the top of Bixby home or in the Bixby settings menu.
If you tap the toggle to turn off the Bixby key, nothing will happen when you press the button.
This new Bixby button toggle appears to slowly rolling out to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 owners. Some have gotten the feature after installing a new update and some haven’t, notes SamMobile, so it could take a few days to show up on your device.
It’s also worth noting that disabling this button won’t get rid of Bixby altogether. Bixby Home will still be there when you swipe left from the home screen. This button just disables Bixby Home from being launched when you press the hardware button on the side of your S8 or Note 8.
Samsung put the hardware Bixby button its S8 and Note 8 because it wants the assistant to succeed and to make it easy for customers to access it. However, there are some people who have been getting annoyed with the button because they accidentally press it which then launches Bixby, which they then have to exit out of. Now that they have the option to disable the Bixby button, that shouldn’t be a problem any longer.
