Today’s the day that Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 8, its brand new flagship smartphone. That’s not the only new device that Samsung has up its sleeve, though, as the company has confirmed that it’s got another announcement coming next week.
DJ Koh, president of Samsung’s mobile division, has revealed that the next Gear S smartwatch will debut at IFA next week. IFA runs from September 1st through September 6th.
Koh didn’t spill any details of the new Gear S smartwatch’s features, but he did suggest that a watch with solid health features could help the smartwatch market grow. “If we can put in place properly a smartwatch that can monitor everything for your health and provide the information, then the market will grow,” the executive said.
With its past couple of Gear S releases, Samsung has offered two versions of its smartwatch. For example, last year saw the Gear S3 Classic with a more modern watch look and the Gear S3 Frontier with a more rugged design. It’s possible that we’ll see a similar strategy again with this new Gear S watch, giving would-be buyers a choice of what style watch they want to strap to their wrist.
