When Andy Rubin introduced the Essential Phone back in late May, he said the device would ship within 30 days. We’re now well past that timeframe, but it looks like we may finally get a solid launch date soon.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Essential president Niccolo De Masi has said that we’ll get an “exact date” for the Essential Phone in a week. Jason Mackenzie, Head of Sales for Essential, also teased this morning that we can expect more Essential Phone info next week.
De Masi went on to confirm that the Essential Phone will be offered by Amazon and Best Buy in the U.S. Sprint is the exclusive carrier for the device.
There’s a lot of hype surrounding the Essential Phone. Not only is it a high-end Android phone with an attractive design and super slim bezels, but Essential’s CEO is Andy Rubin, who helped to create Android.
It’s still unknown exactly when the Essential Phone will launch, but we’re now getting close to the launch of other flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Apple iPhone 8, and LG V30, which means that the competition is heating up. While there will almost certainly be hype for the Essential Phone whenever it does launch, it may also get less attention if it launches in the coming weeks than if it had been released in June like was originally anticipated.
