After reusing some Galaxy Note 7 parts to make the Galaxy Note Fan Edition, Samsung today detailed more of the moves that it’ll be making to recycle the discontinued Note 7.
Samsung has announced that it plans to reuse components like OLED displays, memory semiconductors, and camera modules, using some as service materials and selling others. The company also plans to recover around 157 tons of gold, silver, cobalt, and copper through recycling.
The Galaxy Note 7 was a bit of a disaster for Samsung, having been recalled twice and ultimately discontinued due to issues that could cause the phone’s battery to overheat and explode. It’s good that the company is taking steps to reuse and recycle as many Note 7 parts as it can, especially since it probably has quite a few leftover Note 7s since it was a flagship phone that likely saw major production. By taking these steps, Samsung is lessening the environmental impact of the Note 7 and minimizing waste.
