After launching its 5G Evolution network in Austin a few months ago, AT&T is now lighting up another city with its improved LTE coverage.
AT&T 5G Evolution is now live in parts of Indianapolis, Indiana. This means that AT&T customers that live in Indianapolis and have a Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ can take advantage of AT&T’s 5G Evolution service.
With 5G Evolution, AT&T upgrades select cell towers with LTE Advanced technologies like 256 QAM, 4x4 MIMO, and 3 Carrier Aggregation. So while AT&T’s 5G Evolution service isn’t true 5G, it does offer faster LTE speeds to compatible phones. And by the end of 2017, AT&T plans to improve its 5G Evolution service with LTE-License Assisted Access and 4 Carrier Aggregation in certain areas.
AT&T also plans to roll out 5G Evolution in metros like Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, and San Francisco. The carrier’s plan is to have 5G Evolution in more than 20 metro areas by the end of 2017.
