Following last month’s rumor that a Galaxy S8 Active is in the works, an image of the device has now leaked out.
The Wireless Power Consortium has posted a listing for the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active on its website, complete with a photo of the device’s front. The device features the same 18:9 display as the standard Galaxy S8, but it appears to ditch the Infinity Display curved edges of the GS8 and also has thicker edges.
Samsung hasn’t officially announced the Galaxy S8 Active, so it’s unclear when the device will launch. The Wireless Power Consortium is focused on promoting the Qi wireless charging standard, and this listing on the WPC website suggests that the Galaxy S8 Active has been Qi certified, which would make sense considering that the standard Galaxy S8 supports Qi.
Today’s leak also mentions that the Galaxy S8 Active’s model number is SM-G892A, which lines up with a previous report about the device. The “A” also hints that this will be an AT&T phone, which has been the case with past Galaxy S Active models.
Most of the details of the Galaxy S8 Active are still up in the air, but if it’s like previous Active models, it should have most of the same specs at the standard Galaxy S8. The big difference here is a tougher frame that’ll better withstand drops than the glass-covered Galaxy S8 and its curved edge display.
