Way back in November 2015, Sprint launched a promotion that offered to cut the rate plan of your current provider in half when you switched to Sprint. That promo has been extended several times since then, but now it looks like it’ll finally be coming to an end soon.
Sprint will end its half-off switcher promo as soon as this week, according to analyst Jeffrey Moore. It’s expected that when Sprint does end its offer, it’ll simultaneously introduce new rate plans of its own.
As for why the promo is ending, AT&T and Verizon’s recently launched unlimited plans are reportedly to blame. The plan for Sprint was to convince people to switch using its half-off deal, then upsell them to a different plan that was priced similarly to AT&T and Verizon but offered more data. Now that those carriers have unlimited data, though, there’s nothing to upsell customers on.
Sprint’s half-off switcher promo has been around for quite some time, so it’s kind of crazy to hear that Sprint is finally bringing it to an end. This new report does claim that Sprint has some new plans to go along with the end of its half-off switcher deal, though, so it’ll be interesting to see what the big yellow carrier has cooked up. Stay tuned.
