Twitter today announced some updates that aim to make its service safer and more enjoyable to use.
Twitter is now rolling out new filtering options to control the notifications that you see. You can now mute notifications from people who have the default “Egg” avatar and users without a confirmed email address or phone number.
You can find these new filters by launching the Twitter app and going into Notifications > Settings > Advanced filters.
The mute functionality is also improving by letting you mute from your home timeline. Plus, you can decide how long the content is muted, with options including one day, one week, one month, or indefinitely.
Finally, Twitter is improving the way that handles reports about users. Twitter will now notify you when it’s received your report and when it decides whether or not it’ll take further action. This alerts will pop up in your notifications tab.
Twitter has caught a lot of flak for how it reacts to abuse on its service, so it’s good to see improvements being made. There’s still more work to be done, though, so here’s to hoping that we see even more improvements soon.
