Along with the new Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus, Moto today announced that it’s got some new Moto Mods for its Z series of phones.
Perhaps the most notable new Moto Mod is the one with Amazon Alexa. With it, you’ll be able to access Amazon’s digital assistant on the go, letting you do things like control your smart home gadgets, check the news, and more, all with the same Alexa assistant that you know from the Amazon Echo.
Moto says that it’s also planning to integrate Alexa into its phones later this year so that you can access the assistant without unlocking your phone. However, there’s no mention of when the integration will happen or which phones will get it.
Also announced today is a new Moto Power Pack. This Moto Mod will add 50 percent battery capacity to your phone, and Moto touts that it’s got a “special efficiency mode which automatically charges your phone to keep efficiency at its peak.” The Moto Power Pack will launch in March for $49 USD/€49.
Moto is also planning a wireless charging Moto Mod, a Turbo Power Moto Mod, a charging adapter, and a Gamepad Moto Mod. The gamepad is launching this summer and will add physical controls and a battery to your Moto smartphone.
It’s great to see Moto continuing to develop and release Moto Mods for its Z series of phones. LG only ever release a couple of modules for its G5, which is disappointing for folks that bought the G5 for its modularity. Owners of Moto’s Z phones already have several modules available to them, and it sounds like Moto’s got several more in the pipeline, which is exciting for Z device users.
