It’s official: Mario is coming to mobile next month.
Nintendo’s Super Mario Run will launch on iOS on December 15. The app will be free to start, offering players “elements of the game’s three modes” free. To unlock the full experience, you can pay a one-time fee of $9.99.
Super Mario Run will be available on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running iOS 8 or higher. The game will be available in 151 countries and support English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, and traditional Chinese languages.
Finally, it’s worth noting that Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Run will eventually be offered on Android, too. There’s no word on that version’s launch date, though.
Super Mario Run isn’t the first Nintendo game to be released on mobile, but it is the biggest one because it features not only Nintendo’s biggest character, but one of the most well-known characters ever. The game is a sort of endless runner that tasks you with tapping the screen to make Mario jump as he constantly moves forward through the courses. The game is meant to be playable with one hand.
