With its new Pixel phones, Google introduced a “pill” widget rather than using the search bar that most Android users are accustomed to. However, now it looks like Google may be planning to tweak that search bar to make it more like the widget on the Pixels.
Some Android users are seeing a new Google search widget with rounded edges. When compared with the square widget that most of us have, this new rounder widget only has the Google “G” logo and is mostly gray for its search box.
This updated Google search widget appears to be in testing right now as part of the standalone Google app. It’s unclear when or if it’ll roll out to everyone, including the Google Now Launcher’s integrated search bar, so we’ll just have to wait and see what Google does.
I do think that this rounder Google search bar looks quite a bit nicer than the squared off one. It’s sort of a good middle ground between the squared-off widget that most every has now and the pill-shaped widget that’s on the Pixel and Pixel XL.
