European phone maker Wileyfox is making a name for itself by launching affordable Android phones running Cyanogen OS, and today the company took the wraps off of two new phones that stick to that strategy.
The Wileyfox Swift 2 (shown above) and Swift 2 Plus (shown below) are now official. Both phones are available for purchase for £159 ($176 USD) and £189 ($210 USD), respectively.
Folks that choose the Swift 2 will get a device that runs Cyanogen OS 13.1 (based on Android 6.0.1) on a 5-inch 1280x720 display with 2.5D glass. There’s a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash here as well as an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
Inside the Swift 2’s metal rear lives an octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, dual SIM slots (one of which doubles as a microSD slot), NFC, fingerprint reader, and a 2,700mAh battery that you recharge using USB Type-C. Wileyfox also touts the Swift 2 as offering a 15.11mm speaker and Power Amp AW87319 for improved speaker quality.
And then there’s the Swift 2 Plus, which offers a few higher-end specs than its non-Plus sibling. For example, there’s 32GB of storage rather than 16GB and 3GB of RAM rather than 2GB. There’s also a beefier 16-megapixel rear camera on board.
Outside of those tweaks, the Swift 2 Plus is largely similar to the Swift 2. The Swift 2 Plus runs Cyanogen OS 13.1 on a 5-inch 1280x720 screen, has an 8-megapixel rear camera and Snapdragon 430 processor, a 2,700mAh battery, USB Type-C charging, NFC, fingerprint reader, dual SIM slots (one of which doubles as a microSD slot), and a metal rear.
The Wileyfox Swift 2 and Swift 2 Plus look like respectable Android handsets. Not only are they easy on the wallet, but they’ve displays that aren’t huge but aren’t tiny, and the metal backs should help to give them a premium touch.
