Now that Samsung has officially discontinued the Galaxy Note 7, it’ll begin the process of recalling all of the devices that are already in the wild. And it looks like Samsung is going all out to ensure that owners can safely ship their Note 7s back.
Samsung is shipping an elaborate return package to consumers that bought a Galaxy Note 7 direct from Samsung. Some Note 7 owners are already getting their return kits, including the folks at XDA, and they include an anti-static bag for the phone, a cardboard box for that bag, another cardboard box for that box, and the final return package that’s insulated with ceramic fiber to keep any fire that might happen under control. And because that ceramic fiber could irritate the skin of some consumers, Samsung is also throwing in some latex gloves for added protection.
Finally, it’s worth noting that these phones must be sent using ground shipping, as companies like UPS and FedEx don’t want to risk a device catching fire while on an airplane.
There’s no question that this is an elaborate package, but it kind of has to be that way. Both original and replacement Galaxy Note 7s have caught fire, and so the shipping companies don’t want to transport a device that might catch fire during the shipping process. All of these boxes, including the main one lined with ceramic fiber, are meant to help keep any potential fires under control.
