Samsung discontinues the Galaxy Note 7

The saga of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is finally coming to an end.

Samsung is halting sales and production of the Galaxy Note 7, bringing a permanent end to the device. “Taking our customer’s safety as our highest priority, we have decided to halt sales and production of the Galaxy Note 7,” Samsung said today.

This comes one day after Samsung asked all of its carrier and retail partners to stop selling and exchanging the Note 7, and also urged all owners to power down their devices and “take advantage of the remedies available.”

The five major US carriers and Best Buy have all said that Note 7 owners can bring their phone in and swap it for any other device in their inventories.

The Note 7 received positive reviews following its launch in August, but weeks after its debut, reports of devices catching fire began to surface. Fast-forward and now we’re here, with Samsung throwing in the towel and totally discontinuing the Note 7 following a recall and more reports of phones catching fire. It’s disappointing to see an attractive, high-end phone getting killed off, but it’s probably the best move for both consumers and Samsung.

Do you have a Note 7? If so, are you exchanging it or are you going to keep using it?
