Google Pixel and Pixel XL will be supported by Republic Wireless at launch

Earlier this year, Republic Wireless announced that it’d begin offering SIM cards so that customers could bring their own phone to the service so long as it was supported by Republic. And soon Republic is adding support for two major new phones.

Republic Wireless says that it’ll support both the Google Pixel and Pixel XL when they launch later in October. That means that you can order an unlocked Pixel or Pixel XL from Google, and the first day that you get it, you can pop in a Republic Wireless SIM card and use your Pixel with Republic’s service.

You can get a Republic Wireless SIM card right here for $5.

For a phone to work on Republic, it needs to support the operator’s hybrid Wi-Fi/cellular calling and Adaptive Coverage features. That used to mean it had to be baked into a phone’s ROM, meaining that Republic customers could only use the select few phones sold by their operator. Republic says that it’s moved that tech into the cloud, though, opening its service up to many more devices.

Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL are two of the biggest Android smartphone releases of the year, and so it’s good that Republic Wireless will support them on day one. The Pixels are available for pre-order now from the Google Store.
