QuadRooter is a recently discovered Android security vulnerability that’s said to impact hundreds of millions of devices. Google patched three of the four QuadRooter vulnerabilities with its August security update, and now BlackBerry is patching the fourth on its phones.
BlackBerry said today that it’s pushing security patches to the Priv and DTEK50. The updates patch QuadRooter’s fourth security vulnerability on both phones, and you can download your phone’s update by going to Settings > About phone > System updates on your Priv or DTEK50.
BlackBerry is now updating Priv and DTEK50 models sold through its ShopBlackBerry.com store. Phones sold by carriers are expected to receive the update later this week.
QuadRooter is an exploit that takes advantage of consumers that download malicious exploits from apps outside of the Play Store. Most consumers probably don’t do this, but it’s still important for the vulnerabilities to be patched to protect consumers. And while Google will be patching the fourth vulnerability on its own, BlackBerry decided to take the initiative on its phones and update them now. They pride themselves on security, so it’s no surprise to see BlackBerry pushing these patches.
