Ting cuts prices on its data rates

Ting, the MVNO that lets you create a plan based on your monthly usage, today announced some price cuts for its data rates.

Starting today, August 5, every Ting data tier save for the 100MB option is getting cheaper. Here’s how the new rates break down:

  • Small: Up to 100MB for $3
  • Medium: Up to 500MB for $10 (was $12)
  • Large: Up to 1GB for $16 (was $19)
  • XL: Up to 2GB for $20 (was $29)
  • XL+: 2GB and beyond for $10 per GB (was $15 per GB)

Customers that are new to Ting will get these cheaper data rates immediately upon joining. For existing customers, the lower prices will appear on their next full billing cycle.

Ting attributes the lower prices to getting better rates from their carrier partners. “We’ve been lobbying our carrier partners for a while to get better wholesale data rates,” said Michael Goldstein, VP of Sales and Marketing. “We were successful and we are immediately passing these savings on to our customers.”

Lower rate plan pricing is always good to see. That’s especially true when the price is being lowered on data, which is important for all of the surfing, streaming, and sharing that smartphone users do.
