One benefit of owning a Nexus device that’s often highlighted is that you get updates directly from Google, typically giving you new features before most other Android users. There are other benefits, though, including the one that Google is focusing on today.
Google says that it’s now updating the Google Phone app on Nexus and Android One devices. With this update, you’ll get a warning when you’re receiving a phone call from a suspected spam caller.
The update will also enable you to block and report a phone number if it is indeed spam. To mark a phone number as spam, you can go to the Recent calls section of your phone app, tap on the call that you want to report, then tap the “Block/report spam” button.
Spam phone calls are annoying, and if so some people choose not to answer any calls from numbers that aren’t already in their contacts list. This Google Phone update makes avoiding spam calls easier and lets you answer calls from numbers that are legitimate but maybe not in your phonebook, perhaps from a doctor or dentist.
If you’ve got a Nexus or Android One phone, keep an eye out for this Google Phone update in the coming days.
