With the upcoming iPhone 7 — or whatever it ends up being called — it’s rumored that Apple will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack. According to a new report, though, that’s not the only major change that the new iPhone will feature.
The new iPhone will launch with a base storage option of 32GB, says a source speaking to the Wall Street Journal. There’s no word on what the other storage options will be, but Apple offers 64GB and 128GB models along with the 16GB iPhone 6s, so it’s possible that we’ll see 64GB and 128GB versions of the next iPhone, too.
Apple has shipped its iPhones with a 16GB base storage for many years, but with the past couple of models, folks have been urging Apple to bump its base iPhone to 32GB. That’s because as games become more graphics intensive and larger in size, photos get higher quality, and video can be captured at 4K resolution, the content on our phones is increasingly taking up more space. Plus, unlike devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and HTC 10, Apple’s iPhones don’t offer microSD slots that let you add more storage if you need it.
If the past few iPhone launches are any indication, we’ll see the 2016 iPhone and its hopefully-more-capacious base model in mid-September.
