OnePlus announces OnePlus 3, now sans invitations

OnePlus has become a popular brand in the industry, being among the first to offer a low-cost smartphone with flagship – or close to flagship – specs. Past generations of the OnePlus devices have been quite well-received, but have previously needed invitations in order to purchase one. This year, OnePlus changes things up by omitting the need for invitations for the new OnePlus 3, just announced during a VR event held by OnePlus in their Android "The Loop" app.

The OnePlus 3 continues on the legacy of the brand by offering the same specs – and in some cases, better specs - you would expect to see from bigger brands like Samsung, HTC, or LG. The device features a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 AMOLED display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset and 6GB of RAM. It features 64GB of internal storage, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera (with OIS), and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The OnePlus 3 takes a more premium direction with a new aluminum unibody casing, and comes in either Graphite or Soft Gold colors. Other design features include a slightly protruding camera on the back and a single physical button on the front, which also acts as a fingerprint sensor. The device runs on a 3,000 mAh battery, and will run OxygenOS based on Android 6.1. A full list of detailed specs is available from OnePlus.

As for pricing, you can pick up the One Plus 3 starting at 3:00 P.M. EST over at OnePlus’s website for $399. With this year’s OnePlus being invitationless, it’s advised that you pick one up as soon as possible if this is the phone for you – it’s likely these phones could disappear fast.
