While the big draw of Periscope is that you can watch a live stream hosted by anyone, the app does let you watch replays of broadcasts if you miss them when they’re live. Those saved streams disappear after 24 hours, but Periscope is changing that.
Periscope today detailed its new feature that’ll let you save broadcasts for longer than 24 hours. The feature is currently in a public beta and can be enabled by adding #save to your broadcast, but soon your broadcasts will automatically be saved both on Periscope and Twitter. If you’d rather not have your broadcasts saved, you’ll be able to manually delete them or change your settings to have them deleted after 24 hours.
It’s good that Periscope currently saves broadcasts for 24 hours to let folks watch a stream that they couldn’t catch live, but there are instances in which 24 hours isn’t enough time. For example, you might try to remember to watch a replay of a broadcast but then forget, or you might stumble upon a Periscope user that’s been around a while and you want to watch some of their past broadcasts. With this new saving feature, those situations will no longer be a problem.
There are a couple of other new features coming soon to Periscope. The first is that you’ll be able to search for broadcasts by title or topic, like searching for #Travel or #Food. Periscope is also adding support for broadcasting from drones, starting with these DJI drones. To use this feature, you’ll need to connect your iPhone to the drone’s remote, and Periscope will automatically pull in your drone’s feed.
All of these new features will roll out in the coming weeks.
