Lenovo Tech World happening June 9, will bring Project Tango phone and a Motorola announcement

May and June are going to be huge months for mobile, with Google I/O happening May 18-20 and Apple WWDC taking place June 13-17. Now we’re scheduling a big event in-between those two.

Lenovo Tech World is happening on June 9 in San Francisco, Calif. Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing will give a keynote address to discuss things like virtual reality and connected devices, and Lenovo promises that there will be “major product announcements” at the show, too. For example, it’ll launch the first Project Tango smartphone that its working on with Google.

Lenovo teased earlier this year that it was working on a Project Tango smartphone with Google. We know that the device will be powered by a Snapdragon processor, but that’s about the only spec detail that’s currently available. The big draw of the Project Tango phone will be its augmented reality capabilities, which will let you do things like use indoor mapping and overlay information and objects onto your real world.

Also expected to be shown at Tech World is a “new mobile technology” that’s been designed by Motorola. Exactly what this new mobile tech is remains a mystery, but Lenovo is talking it up quite a bit, saying that what it has planned “will dramatically change the way people think about and use their most personal devices - in a snap.”

As for what Lenovo might have planned for Motorola, we’ve seen the new Moto G and Moto X phones leaking quite a bit lately. Considering that the Moto X Pure Edition just launched in September, it might be a bit too early for a new Moto X model. The Moto G (3rd Gen) debuted last July, so it’s possible that the Moto G4 could make an appearance at Tech World this coming June. Or maybe Lenovo and Motorola have something else up their sleeves that we don’t yet know anything about. Tech World is just one month away, so we don’t have long to wait before all is revealed.
