Samsung Galaxy S7 Active shows off its rugged body in leaked photos

Over the past few years, Samsung has developed a tradition of releasing a rugged “Active” version of its Galaxy S flagship a few months after the regular model. It started with the Galaxy S4, and we’ve also gotten “Active” versions of the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S7 will be no different.

Photos that show the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active have leaked out. The device looks largely like you would expect it to, featuring the same squircle rear camera with flash and fingerprint reader around back, while the front has a a trio of navigation buttons. Because this is an “Active” phone, though, it’s got a more rugged body with thick corners and physical Back and Recent Apps keys instead of capacitive ones. To help make it more rugged and outdoorsy, Samsung has also given the GS7 Active a digital camo print on its rear.

As has been the case with the past three Galaxy S Active phones, it appears as though the Galaxy S7 Active is coming to AT&T, because it’s got an AT&T globe logo directly beneath its camera. There’s no word on whether it’ll come to other carriers as well, but past Galaxy S Active phones have been AT&T exclusives, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise if that’s the case with the GS7 Active, too.

In terms of specs, expect the GS7 Active to be largely similar to the Galaxy S7. That includes a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and so on. And while the Galaxy S7 is IP68-rated for resistance to dust and water, the Galaxy S7 Active’s rugged design should help it to withstand drops and other abuse better than the Galaxy S7’s glass and metal body.

What do you think of this Galaxy S7 Active? Do you prefer its beefy body over the GS7’s design?
