T-Mobile today reported its Q1 2016 results, revealing that it added 2.2 million customers in the first few months of 2016. That includes more than 1 million postpaid adds and 807,000 prepaid adds (including MetroPCS), the latter of which is up from 73,000 one year ago. This is the 12th straight quarter that T-Mobile has added more than 1 million customers and the 6th time in the past 7 quarters with more than 2 million adds.
Once the quarter was over and the dust had settled, T-Mobile had 65.5 million total customers. To compare, it ended Q1 2015 with 56.8 million customers.
T-Mobile’s financials performed well, too, with service revenues growing from $5.8 billion in Q1 2015 to $6.6 billion in Q1 2016. Total revenues grew from $7.8 billion to $8.6 billion year-over-year. Finally, T-Mobile’s net income for the quarter was $479 million, up from a loss of $63 million in Q1 2015.
T-Mo today also dropped some updates about its network, revealing that its 4G LTE coverage is now up to 308 million POPs, including partner LTE coverage. Extended Range LTE, which reaches farther and penetrates buildings better than T-Mo’s regular LTE, now covers 194 million people in more than 340 markets. And T-Mobile has agreed to acquire more 700MHz spectrum licenses that’ll bump its low-band spectrum holdings from 210 million POPs to 258 million POPs.
After dropping all of these Q1 2016 results, T-Mobile CEO John Legere shared a bit of other T-Mo news, revealing that T-Mobile’s Un-carrier 11 move is “coming soon.”
7/ We’re expanding our network like crazy, participating in the spectrum auction, adding stores AND #Uncarrier 11 coming soon! @TMobile #FTW
