Have you ever wondered why your phone bill was so high? Apart from paying for the service, you're actually helping the company pay for its marketing campaign. This means that you're helping pay for all those Super Bowl ads you see during half time and those billboards on the highway. And you already know these cost a lot of money.
But what if there was a way for you to use that extra money to help support a charity group you believe in? What if, instead of paying for TV airtime, your carrier would use that money to help others in need? Well, that's exactly what the idea behind The People's Operator is.
Originally, TPO launched in the UK in 2012. The carrier has since then ventured into the US where they have started offering competitive cell phone plans to individuals. Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, is even part of the carrier's management team; where he plays an active role in supporting the company. Unlike other carriers, TPO breaks away from the expensive marketing campaigns you typically see on TV and on billboards. Instead, they use that money for advertising to a charity supported by their customers.
When you sign up for one of the contract-free cell phone plans offered by TPO, 10% of your monthly bill will be going straight to the charity you have selected. You can choose from one of the five plan options they provide:
Kind Plan ($19/month) – Includes 1,000 minutes, unlimited text, and 500MB of data
Noble Plan ($30/month) – Includes unlimited minutes and texts, and 2GB of data
Caring Plan ($40/month) – Includes unlimited minutes and texts, and 3GB of data
Hero Plan ($45/month) – Includes unlimited minutes and texts, and 5GB of data
Gracious Plan ($65/month) – Includes unlimited minutes and texts, and 7GB of data
Plus, if you opt to enroll your bill in Auto Pay, you can save $5 from your monthly fee making it $14, $25, $35, $40, and $60.
You will then have to pick out the charity group you would like to support. Your options include the following:
ASPCA
Save The Children
Feeding America
WWF
Action Against Hunger
Wounded Warrior Project
Autism Speaks
Adopt A Classroom
many more
TPO uses Sprint's nationwide LTE network and offers a number of high-end smartphones such as the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, LG G4, and the HTC One M9. Other budget-friendly options are also available. Or if you prefer, you can bring your own device as long as it is compatible with TPO's plans.
Starting today, TPO will be available on CDMA and GSM networks. Now wouldn't you want to switch to a carrier that allows you to help others more?
