Earlier today, CNN announced that they released an update to their CNN App for Android devices, promising to give users a more in-depth look at content they share. In the particular update, CNN has introduced an option to playback 360 video directly from the app itself. This means that device users who have a VR headset will be able to check out the video in a 360-degree manner whenever you see a 360-degree video icon on the title. If you already own a headset, you can just tap on the video then slide your device onto the headset. This will then enable you to look around and have a more in-depth experience around the video content.
The first 360-degree video content CNN has made available for its app users is the footage of the of the 1986 explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger. The footage was pieced together by the news organization's CNNVR division giving a reenactment of that day's events in virtual reality.
Along with 360-degree video, CNN has added Chromecast support onto their latest Android app update. With this, you can cast your favorite video clips onto your Chromecast device, whether it's the 1st or 2nd generation model. As of this writing, however, live TV and full Android TV support have not yet been made available. Google says that these are arriving in the future.
