Lots of traditional watch makers are getting into the smartwatch game. There’s TAG Heuer, Fossil, Casio, and now Nixon is, too.
Nixon today revealed the Mission, its new ruggedized Android Wear smartwatch. The Mission features a “super durable” 48mm polycarbonate case as well as a roll cage bezel made of 316L stainless steel that protects the screen. Speaking of the screen, its a full, round AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass crystal.
Nixon’s Mission is water resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet), and it comes preloaded with a Mission app that’ll keep yo updated on surf and snow conditions around the world as well as Trace, an app that’ll track your stats during activity. The Mission comes with a dual-layer silicone band and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor.
Nixon says that The Mission will launch later this year in multiple color options. No pricing details have been given.
The Mission isn’t the first rugged Android Wear smartwatch, but Nixon says that it’s got “the toughest hardware of any smartwatch.” The watch s also notable because it includes Qualcomm’s new smartwatch-focused Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor rather than the old Snapdragon 400 chipset that most previous Android Wear smartwatches have had. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon Wear 2100 has a low-power sensor hub that’s more accurate than the SD400 and that it also uses 25 percent less power than the SD400, which should help to prolong your watch’s battery life. So it’ll be interesting to see how Nixon’s The Mission performs when it finally hits our wrists.
