Google Maps for iOS update adds detours, 3D Touch support

Last year, Google updated its Maps app for Android with a new feature that’d let you add pit stops during navigation without interrupting your current trip. Now that feature is making its way to iOS.

Google Maps for iOS is being updated to version 4.16.0 today with the same detours feature that rolled out to Android users last year. With it, you can tap the magnifying glass in the upper right corner to be presented with lists of places that you might want to stop at, like gas stations and coffee shops. You can also search for more places if the one you want isn’t in one of those groups. Once you’ve found your place, you can add it to your trip and carry on your merry way.

Also included in today’s Google Maps update is 3D Touch support. With it, you can 3D Touch the app icon to quickly get directions to Home or Work.

Today’s update is a nice one for folks that prefer Google Maps for their iOS mapping needs. The detours functionality will let you easily add more stops to your route without messing up your current navigation, and 3D Touch makes it easier to navigate to your important places using a tentpole feature of Apple’s new phones.
