It’s not even March yet, and we’ve already got plenty of phones to look at for the months ahead. At the top of the pile is Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, along with LG’s G5, but there were other devices announced from the likes of Sony, Huawei, and others. Depending on what you’re looking for, there’s probably already a device that potentially caught your eye.

And there’s still so many more months to go, with companies that haven’t shown off what they’ve been working on since last year. HTC should be right around the corner with the One M10, which the company just recently started to tease. And then there’s Motorola, Samsung again with (probably) a new Note phablet, maybe HTC again, Apple, and others like OnePlus. With a yearly refresh from all of these companies, we can typically guess what’s coming down the line even before the Rumor Mill kicks up and starts to fill in the blanks.

It’s still early in the year, and there’s plenty still to be announced, but even if we haven’t seen everything just yet, you might already have an idea what you plan on upgrading to. Whether you’re a fan of Samsung, LG, HTC, or another company, you might already expect to pick something, no matter what another company announces.

But, I don’t want to focus on what’s new.

Instead, I want to ask a different question: What are you upgrading from this year? I know not everyone out there is upgrading every year, even in today’s market where two-year contracts are going the way of the Dodo, so there’s a possibility that some of you reading this have a smartphone that’s older than a year, or even just a few months.

I’m actually curious to hear not only what you’re upgrading from, but, in the case where the phone might be two years or older, the reason why this year is the time you’ve decided to upgrade, when last year was filled with some pretty great smartphones, too. Is it just the right time? Maybe you did have a two-year contract that’s finally coming to an end at some point in 2016.
