Verizon go90 update lets users watch video over LTE without consuming their data

T-Mobile’s Binge On service has been the target of a lot of criticism as of late, with some arguing that it violates net neutrality. Now Verizon has launched an offer of its own that’s likely to ignite the net neutrality debate.

Verizon today updated its go90 video apps on Android and iOS to version 1.4.0, and included in the update is a feature that’ll let Verizon postpaid customers stream go90 videos over LTE without touching their monthly LTE data allotment. The update also includes faster streaming experience, better following and unfollowing, and free live NBA game previews.

Verizon notes that not all go90 usage will be exempt from using a customer’s data. While streaming videos over LTE will not consume data, other features like downloading, browsing, commenting, clipping, and sharing will still use your data allotment.

The issue that folks are likely to take with this update to go90 is that Verizon is giving its own service an advantage that others, like Netflix and Hulu, aren’t getting. go90 does include content from other companies, though, like Comedy Central and the NBA.

It remains to be seen what, if anything, will come of Verizon’s go90 update. If you’re a postpaid Verizon customer interested in watching some data-free video on the go, though, you can do so by grabbing the go90 app from the Android and iOS links below.
