Overnight, many Safari users were having issues with their Apple-made browser, which was crashing any time that they tried to search using the address bar. The good news is that the issue should now be fixed.
Many users found that trying to type into the address bar on Safari — both the iOS and Mac versions — caused the browser to crash. Developer Steve Troughton-Smith says that even tapping on the address bar could cause a crash. While I didn’t have any issues, many others did. Sources tell BuzzFeed News that the issue affected users whose Safari Suggestions data cache updated in the early morning.

After the issue was first discovered, some folks found that emptying Safari’s cache would resolve the problem. The good news is that Apple now says that it’s fixed the problem that was causing the crashes. To make sure that you don’t run into the issue, though, it’s recommended that you clear your cache by toggling Airplane Mode on and off or going into Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.
Since Safari is the way that many iOS users access the web on their iPhone or iPad, having a bug that could crash Safari when you tap the address bar is a big deal. There were ways to get around the bug, like turning Safari Suggestions off or simply using another browser, but the issue was still a pretty big deal. The good news is that at least the issue was able to be fixed relatively quickly.
