Android Pay may be getting a lot of the mobile payment spotlight lately, but Google is still offering Google Wallet as a way to send money to friends. And now Wallet is gaining another way to send cash.
Google Wallet is getting an update that will enable you to send money to anyone in your contact list using a phone number. When you do, the recipient will get a text message with a link. They can then enter their debit card, and the money should appear in their bank account within minutes.
This feature will be available with a Google Wallet update that’ll roll out to Android and iOS in the coming days.
Previously, you would use an email address to send money to someone using Google Wallet, but sometimes all that you have is a person’s phone number. With this update, you can now pay those people, as well. So while Android Pay may have replaced Google Wallet as the way to pay for things with your Android phone, it’s good to see Google continue to improve Google Wallet and make it a better service for sending money to your friends.
