Boost Mobile now offering data-free music streaming

Starting today, Boost Mobile customers are going to be able to rock out as much as they want without worrying about their data usage.

Boost Mobile is now offering free music streaming, which means that its customers can listen to music from select services without using their data allotment. The free music streaming is available on the $35, $45, and $60 Boost plans.

Boost’s free music streaming is compatible with 5 services at launch. Right now, Boost folk will be able to stream 8tracks, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Samsung Milk Music, and Slacker Radio without using their data. Boost urges customers to keep an eye on this site “as more services may be added,” so the list of free streaming services could get larger in the future.

One other note about Boost’s free music streaming is that some content doesn’t qualify for free streaming. Boost says that cloud streaming, song downloads, video content, non-audio content, and other data (like ads and album art) are excluded from the free streaming, so they will use your data.

Boost Mobile’s free music streaming is reminiscent of MetroPCS's Music Unlimited offering, which lets Metro customers stream music from several services without touching their monthly data allotment. While the two offerings may be similar, Boost customers are probably just excited to be able to stream tunes without using up their monthly data. Here’s to hoping that Boost does at least add big services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music in the future.
