One year after introducing the Chronowing, HP is teaming up with watch maker Movado on a new smartwatch.
The Movado Bold Motion is a new smartwatch that looks like a traditional analog watch, complete with a round face, but it’s got smarts that’ll alert you to new messages, calls, and daily steps. The watch has blue LEDs that’ll light up when you’ve got some notifications on your phone. The Bold Motion works with smartphones running Android 4.4 or higher and iOS 8 or higher, and there’s a Movado app that you can use to fine-tune which alerts get pushed to your watch as well as tracking your steps.
The case of the Bold Motion measures 44mm and is made of stainless steel with a black PVD-finished bezel or an all-black PVD finish. Its design is unisex, and Movado says that the watch can survive water submersion up to 50 meters. Also included with the Bold Motion is a black silicone strap.
As for pricing and availability, the Bold Motion will retail for $695, and Movado says that it’ll launch in its online store “in time for the holidays.”
The Movado Bold Motion is the latest in a string of smartwatches that look like regular watches. It’s notable because, like the TAG Heuer Connected, it’s coming from an established Swiss watchmaker. Because it’s not running Android Wear or watchOS, the Bold Motion isn’t going to be quite as feature-rich as competing smartwatches that do run that software. However, the main target of the Bold Motion isn’t folks that want a super techy smartwatch. Instead, Movado is aiming its watch at people that are big into analog watches and want something a bit smarter than a regular watch, but still looks like an analog watch.
