Google Play on Android now showing numerical ratings in app listings

Google has long had star ratings for apps in the Play Store, but today El Goog is changing up how those ratings are displayed.

Google appears to be quietly rolling out a new way to display star ratings on pages with lists of apps. Previously, each entry would display 5 stars, with the rating shown by filling in the appropriate number of stars. That’s now changing, with Google opting instead to display a number along with a single star to show an app’s rating. To see the old method of displaying ratings, check out the image below.

This change is present in lists of apps, including on your updates page. The only place that it still shows all 5 stars is on an individual app page, though those include the numerical rating as well.

This new-look method of displaying ratings definitely makes it easier to see an app’s rating at a glance, letting you see a simple number rather than sitting and examining the stars to decipher an app’s rating. It’s also a bit cleaner, showing a simple number and one star in the corner of the entry rather than a string of gray stars.

To see if the new star ratings display is live for you, simply load up the Google Play app on your phone. If it’s not there, give it some time, as Google can take its time in rolling out updates like these.

Are you seeing this change on your Android device? If so, what do you think of it?
