If you’re one of the millions of people that use WhatsApp and you’ve also got an Android phone, there’s a handy new feature rolling out that you might want to be aware of.

Google and WhatsApp — which is owned by Facebook — are teaming up to let Android users easily back up their WhatsApp data to Google Drive. When you create a backup, you’ll be saving your chat history, voice messages, photos, and videos in Google Drive. Once you’ve got a backup, you can then restore all of your content with a couple of taps. You can also change the frequency that new backups are created, with options for daily, weekly, and monthly backups available.

This is an extremely handy feature that I’m betting a lot of Android users will appreciate. Messaging history is something that is important to have when switching to a new phone because it lets you carry on your conversations right where you left off on your old device, and now it’s super easy to load your WhatsApp history when you switch to a new device. And while restoring content may not be something that most folks do regularly, it’s a feature that’ll probably be greatly appreciated when it is needed.

Google says that this WhatsApp backup feature will roll out over the coming months. You’ll see an option in your WhatsApp settings when it arrives for you.
