Last month, Samsung teased a mysterious new tablet called the Galaxy View, saying that we’ll learn more about the device in October. It looks like that’s indeed the case, but it’s not Samsung that’s telling us more about it.
Evan Blass today pointed toward a GFXBench benchmark results page for the Samsung SM-T670, saying that the “leaked specs are accurate” and including an image of some Samsung Galaxy View branding. According to the benchmark, the Galaxy View has an 18.5-inch 1920x1080 display, 1.6GHz octa-core Exynos processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 5.1.1. Blass adds that the Galaxy View has a 5700mAh battery.
So yeah, it looks like the Galaxy View is the monstrous 18-inch Samsung tablet that we heard about in mid-August. That report claimed that the Galaxy View is 451.8mm x 275.8mm x 11.9mm. To compare it to a couple of recently-released tablets, the iPad Air 2 is 240mm x 169.5mm x 6.1mm, and the Nexus 9 is 228.25mm x 153.68mm x 7.95mm. Compared to those two tablets, the Galaxy View is a goliath, but that’s kind of to be expected when you’re comparing a tablet with an 18-inch screen to devices with 10-inch and 9-inch displays.
In terms of specs, the Galaxy View doesn’t look like the most high-end slate around, but the main draw here is likely its large display. With it, you could easily run a couple of apps side-by-side, view a big ol’ spreadsheet, or have a spacious canvas for art.
Exactly when Samsung will officially announce the Galaxy View and its price tag remains to be seen, but Samsung said when it teased the device that it’d share more in October, so stay tuned.
