The last time that Microsoft unveiled a new Windows-based flagship smartphone was April 2014. So as you might expect, there’s some excitement surrounding Microsoft’s October 6 event, at which it’s thought that we’ll see two new Windows 10 Mobile flagships. Today we’re getting an early look at one of them.
Evan Blass has shared an image of the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL, the larger of the two upcoming flagship phones. This is actually the third time that we’ve seen official-looking press renders of the Lumia 950 XL, but hey, who really minds getting another early peek at one of Microsoft’s big new phones?
The Lumia 950 XL is expected to run Windows 10 Mobile on a 5.7-inch 2560x1440 display. It’ll reportedly have an 20-megapixel rear PureView camera with optical image stabilization and a triple flash, as well as a 5-megapixel front camera. Inside of its polycarbonate shell will allegedly be a Snapdragon 810 processor, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot, 3GB of RAM, USB Type-C, and a 3300mAh battery. The device is also rumored to include an iris scanner for security and authentication.
In terms of design, the Lumia 950 XL doesn’t exactly have an awe-inspiring design, looking kind of like a bigger version of other Lumia phones we’ve seen. That won’t help the 950 XL stand out in the store among smartphones on other platforms, but for folks that are already invested in Windows, the arrival of a new flagship-level device is going to be a big deal.
