Now that Google has confirmed that the next major Android update will be version 6.0 Marshmallow, most folks are wondering when they’ll actually get that update. Google hasn’t made any official announcements on that matter, but one carrier may have just spilled the beans.
Canadian carrier Telus recently refreshed its Software Update Schedule to show that the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 will begin receiving updates to Android M on October 5. The carrier notes that “all dates are approximate and subject to change,” but this is the first concrete date that’s been attached to the public rollout of Android 6.0.
As usual, nothing is official until Google makes it so, so don’t go requesting October 5 off of work quite yet. Google is holding an event on September 29, and we’ll likely see new Android 6.0-powered Nexus phones there, so it’s certainly possible that Marshmallow could begin hitting other Nexus devices in early October. The good news is that we’re just five days away from Google’s event, and we should learn more about Google’s Marshmallow rollout plans there.
