One week after Google officially launched Android Pay, Google has released the standalone app into Google Play.
The Android Pay app is actually an updated version of the old Google Wallet app, but now the transition to Android Pay is complete. So if you’ve got a device that’s compatible with Android Pay — one that’s running Android 4.4 or higher and has NFC — you can download the app and try Google’s new payments service for yourself.
It’s worth noting that some folks are reporting that the Android Pay app won’t work on their rooted phone, so if your phone is rooted, that’s something to be aware of.
Android Pay supports cards from American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa, including cards from banks like Bank of America and U.S. Bank. As for where you can use Android Pay, Google has a list right here that includes the likes of American Eagle Outfitters, Chevron, GameStop, McDonald’s, and Foot Locker.
