Switch from Android to iOS is Apple's first app for Google's platform

After initially revealing its first Android app back in June, Apple has officially released its app into Google Play.

Switch from Android to iOS — yes, that’s the name — is now available for download. Just as the name suggests, you use Apple’s app to transfer content from an Android device to an iOS product. When using the app, the iPhone will create a private Wi-Fi network that your Android device can connect to after you enter a security code. Once you do, the content on your Android phone will begin to wirelessly transfer to your iPhone.

Using the Switch from Android to iOS app, you can transfer your contacts, message history, photos and videos, website bookmarks, mail accounts, calendars, and any free apps that are available on both the Google Play and App Store.

In order to use Switch from Android to iOS, you’ll need an Android device running 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher.

It’s kind of crazy to see an Apple app on Google’s store for Android, but this Switch from Android to iOS app is a smart move. Lots of folks dread having to switch smartphone platforms, but if they know that this app exists, some people may be more willing to change from Android to iOS.

So now that Apple’s Switch from Android to iOS app is here, I have to ask: Do you think that we’ll ever see a “Switch from iOS to Android” app from Google in the Apple App Store?
