Amazon's new 10-inch Android tablet revealed in new leak

A recent report claimed that Amazon is working on a new 6-inch tablet that’ll cost $50, and the rumor also mentioned that the retailer is working on new 8-inch and 10-inch tablets as well. Details on those larger models were light at the time, but today a new leak has revealed more info on the 10-inch model.

Evan Blass has shared an image that allegedly shows the front and rear of Amazon’s new 10-inch Android tablet. The hardware looks a bit like a mix of last year’s Fire HDX tablet and Amazon’s Fire phone, and we can see that the top is home to what looks like a power/lock key and volume buttons. Interestingly, the placement of the Amazon logo and front-facing camera suggests that Amazon intends this tablet to be used vertically. The Fire HDX 8.9 that was released last year had its front camera on one of the longer sides, suggesting that it was meant to be used horizontally.

The software on this 10-inch tablet looks to be a new version of Amazon’s Fire OS that’s based on Android Lollipop, complete with new software navigation buttons.

The actual spec details for this new Amazon Fire tablet aren’t known, but Amazon’s larger tablets have typically been higher-end. Last year’s Fire HDX 8.9 had a 2560x1600 display and quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor. If Amazon decides to make this 10-inch tablet high-end as well, we could see a similarly high screen resolution and possibly beefed up cameras and a newer processor.
